The Chesney Chanter and Reed combination proved to be very successful throughout the Grades in 2019. Bands were promoted from every grade, ranging from Carlow's promotion from grade 4B right through to Closkelt achieving Grade 1 status. Check them out :



2019 Grade 2 UK, Scottish, British and Champion of Champions, Closkelt are upgraded to Grade 1 - they play the new Chesney MK3 Chanter & Reeds


2019 Grade 3A Scottish and World Champions, St Josephs Clondalkin are upgraded to Grade 2 - playing new Chesney MK3 Chanters & Reeds


2019 Grade 3A British and UK Champions, St Mary's Derrytrasna are upgraded to Grade 2 - playing Chesney Chanters & Reeds.


2019 Grade 3B World Champions, Tullylagan Pipe Band are upgraded to Grade 3A playing the Chesney Chanter & Reed combination.


2019 Grade 3B UK and World Championship runners-up, McNeillstown are upgraded to Grade 3A - they play Chesney Chanters & Reeds.


2019 Grade 3B European Champions, Turiff and District are upgraded to Grade 3A - they play Chesney Pipe Reeds.


2019 Grade 4A UK Champions, Augharan are upgraded to Grade 3B - Augharan play new Chesney MK3 Chanters & Reeds.


2019 Grade 4A Cullybackey are upgraded to Grade 3B - Cullybackey play Chesney Chanters & Reeds.


2019 Grade 4B Champions, Carlow are upgraded to Grade 4A - they play Chesney Chanters & Reeds.



The top 3 bands at the 2019 Grade 1 World Championship and 4 of the top 6 prize winners played Chesney Pipe Reeds with St Laurence O'Toole also playing the new Chesney MK3 Chanter.

2nd Field Marshal Montgomery

3rd St Laurence O'Toole (& MK3 Chanters)

6th Boghall & Bathgate


Other Grade 1 bands playing Chesney Pipe Reeds at the 2019 World Championships include Shotts and Dykehead, Lomond and Clyde, Johnstone, Glasgow Police and the PSNI.

Closkelt took 2nd place in Grade 2 at the World Championships and claimed the 2019 Champion of Champions prize playing new Chesney MK3 Chanters & reeds.


The Pipe Band Club from Australia took 3rd, Celtic Pipe Band from New Zealand took 4th and the Peel Police from Canada claimed 5th with all playing Chesney Copper Pipe Reeds.


Grade 3A was won by St Josephs Clondalkin playing the New Chesney MK3 Chanter and reeds.


The Juvenile Grade was won by Dollar Academy, with both Dollar bands also winning Champions of Champions prizes in their respective Juvenile and Juvenile A Grades playing Chesney Copper Pipe Reeds.

Inveraray & District win Grade 1 at the Scottish Championships playing Chesney Copper Pipe Reeds. That marks the bands 10th Major Championship win and all being won playing Chesney Pipe Reeds.


Closkelt won Grade 2 playing the new Chesney MK3 Chanter and Ravara claimed 2nd also playing Chesney Chanters and Reeds.


St Josephs Clondalkin won Grade 3A playing the new Chesney MK3 Chanter with Chesney Reeds. The Juvenile and Novice Juvenile A Grade's were both won by Dollar Academy with both Dollar bands playing Chesney Copper Reeds.
